Since the start of April, several counties and cities have placed fire advisories, restrictions, and bans in effect.
This comes as a warm and dry spring is expected to bring another brutal wildfire season, with last years wildfire season being the worst in Canadian history.
Because of this, Strathcona County, Sturgeon County, and The City of Fort Saskatchewan have all put fire advisories in place. This means that a fire permit is now required for burn barrels, open fires, and fireworks.
As for Lamont County, they’ve placed a fire restriction in place, which prohibits ourdoor fires not contained within a non-combustible fire pit, wood campfires, and fireworks or exploding targets.
Other places, like Leduc County and Smokey Lake County, have put fire bans in effect, which prohibits outdoor fires of all kinds. However, citizens can still use gas or liquid fueled cooking and heating appliances, such as barbecues and patio heaters.
Places such as St. Albert, Edmonton, Bon Accord, Gibbons, and Elk Island National Park do not currently have any form of fire advisory in effect.
