Protestors ask for removal of MLA Dale Nally from life lease legislation

There was a protest at the Alberta legislature last week, with protestors demanding that St. Albert-Morinville MLA Dale Nally be removed from leading life-lease legislation.

The protest was on Thursday, with several NDP MLAs attending the protest as well.

According to the protestors, there have been operators breaking life-lease contracts. Although the seniors affected believed that the money they provided to Christenson Developments would be returned to them, it never was.

The protestors demanded that Premier Danielle Smith withdraw Bill 12, which would fine life lease operators $300,000 per infraction, or even have them face prison time.

However, some protestors believed that the legislation didn’t go far enough. However, in an interview with the St. Albert Gazette, Nally said that with several infractions, operators could be fined millions of dollars for breaking contracts.

In another interview with CTV Edmonton, Nally claimed that he has met with Greg Christenson, owner of Christenson Developments, over a dozen times to put pressure on him to pay people back.

On the other hand, Karin Dowling, president of the Alberta Life Lease Protection Society, says that they have not received word from the provincial government since this life lease legislation was introduced.
