Oilers advance to the Stanley Cup Final

The Oilers are Stanley Cup Final bound.  Captain Connor McDavid and the boys punched their ticket to the Final by defeating the Dallas Stars 2-1 in game 6 at Rogers Place to win the series 4-2.  Goaltender Stuart Skinner stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced, and the power play accounted for both Oilers goals.

This will be the Oilers first trip to the Stanley Cup Final since 2006, when they were defeated by the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games.

The Oilers will face the Florida Panthers, who are participating in their second consecutive, and third overall, Stanley Cup Final.  Notably, the Panthers dispatched the Boston Bruins for the second postseason in a row on their way to the Final.

The last Canadian team to reach the Stanley Cup Final was in 2021, when the Montreal Canadiens lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning.  A Canadian team has not won the Stanley Cup since the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Los Angeles Kings in 1993.
