Edmonton opened the scoring at 7:27 of the first period when Warren Foegele converted a perfect Leon Draisaitl saucer pass. Adam Henrique scored the eventual winner less than a minute into the second frame, followed by an insurance marker by Zach Hyman at 18:20. Aleksander Barkov would get the Panthers on the board in the third, but that was as close as they’d get as Ryan McLeod and Darnell Nurse would score empty-netters to seal the deal.
Stuart Skinner stopped 20 of 21 shots, and the Oilers penalty kill was white-hot again, allowing zero goals on three power play opportunities.
Now one win away from completing the near-impossible, the Oilers fortune has turned along with the series’ momentum since Game 3. The Oilers have fought back, earning themselves a winner-takes-all showdown for the opportunity to hoist their first Stanley Cup since 1990, and a Canadian team’s first championship since 1993.
