Auto thefts in Canada have shown a notable decrease of 17 percent compared to last year, according to a recent report by Equite Association.
In the first half of 2024, Alberta reported a 5 percent reduction in auto thefts, although trucks remain a primary target for thieves.
Conversely, Atlantic Canada has experienced an unfortunate uptick of 11 percent in auto thefts. Analysts speculate this increase may be attributed to stricter security measures implemented in Ontario and Quebec, potentially prompting criminals to shift their activities to provinces with less stringent security protocols.
Since the beginning of the year, the nation has seen over 28,000 cars stolen.
