Health Canada recalls multivitamins and supplements due to traces of metal fibres

Health Canada has issued a recall for several brands of multivitamins and supplements due to concerns that they may contain harmful metal fibres. The affected products are from Factors Group of Nutritional Companies Inc., and include items sold under the brands Kirkland Signature, Life, Option+, Webber Naturals, Wellness by London Drugs, Equate, VegiDay, Wellquest, and Natural Factors.

The agency warns that the risk of harm due to the presence of iron is higher for individuals with certain health conditions, including peptic ulcers, regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or iron allergies. The risk is also increased for those taking high doses of iron supplements, levodopa, or levothyroxine.

The impacted products vary in terms of expiry date and lot number.

Consumers who have been using these products should stop immediately and consult their doctor. The recalled items can be returned to pharmacies for proper disposal.
