Chris Carbert’s defense lawyer claims he is “a bit of a wingnut”

The defense lawyer for Chris Cabert described her client as “a bit of a wingnut” but argued that this does not make him guilty of conspiring to kill police officers.

During closing arguments, the defense acknowledged Cabert’s guilt on charges of mischief but denied the more serious accusations of conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Cabert and his co-accused, Anthony Olienick, face these charges following a police raid that uncovered an arsenal of guns, body armor, ammunition, and pipe bombs. The items were allegedly linked to their involvement in a blockade of the U.S.-Canada border, which was part of a protest against COVID-19 restrictions and vaccine mandates.

Today the jury expected to deliberate and determine the defendants’ fates.
