First Elks win in the books!

The Edmonton Elks celebrated their first victory of the season on Saturday, defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 42-31.

Quarterback Tre Ford, making his debut as the starting quarterback, played a pivotal role in the win. Running back Javon Leake, who was recently moved into the starting role by head coach Jarius Jackson, was also pretty instrumental in the game’s outcome. Leake scored on a four-yard run in the second quarter and added impressive touchdown runs of 51 and 61 yards in the fourth quarter, letting Edmonton take the control they needed to secure the win.

The victory improves the Elks’ record to 1-7, a notable improvement from their winless streak. Despite still sitting at the bottom of the Western Division, the team’s performance offers a glimmer of hope for the remainder of the season.

The Elks will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to host the BC Lions next Sunday. The Lions, with a record of 5-3, will present a challenging opponent, but Edmonton’s recent success may provide the boost they need. (Hopefully)
