Fort Road reopens after years of chaotic traffic and construction

Edmonton’s Fort Road is now fully operational following three years of extensive construction. Traffic is once again flowing smoothly, ending a period of significant disruption that had impacted drivers and businesses in the area.

The major roadwork, which began in August 2021, included widening Fort Road to six lanes between Yellowhead Trail and 66th Street. Additionally, the road was lowered to enhance clearance for the CN Rail underpass.

Originally slated for completion in “Fall 2023,” the project has now met its goal, with the city confirming that all lanes reopened as of early Monday morning. This long-awaited development is expected to alleviate previous traffic congestion and benefit local businesses that faced challenges during the construction period.
