Fort Heritage Precinct wins AMA 2024 Leadership Award for engagement

The Fort Heritage Precinct has been honoured with the Alberta Museums Association (AMA) 2024 Leadership Award for Engagement. This prestigious recognition celebrates the museum’s innovative approach in its Community Partnered Exhibit Series, which has enriched the representation of Fort Saskatchewan’s diverse heritage and culture.

By moving beyond traditional narratives focused on settlers and the North-West Mounted Police, the Fort Heritage Precinct has successfully incorporated a broader range of voices and stories. The series featured collaborations with the Fort Black Society, the Robin Hood Association, the Fort Saskatchewan Pride Committee, and artist Steacy Easton, who is both disabled and LGBTQ+. These partnerships have allowed the museum to highlight perspectives that were previously overlooked.

The museum’s efforts have fostered strong community connections and positioned it as a hub where residents can both learn about others and share their own experiences. This approach has transformed the Fort Heritage Precinct into a place of inclusive storytelling and cultural exchange.

The AMA 2024 Leadership Award will be presented during the association’s Fall Gathering on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology in Drumheller, Alberta.
