The FBI is investigating an attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump that occurred at his golf course in Florida. Trump confirmed he is safe and in good health, while authorities have taken a suspect into custody.
The incident unfolded when U.S. Secret Service agents stationed a few holes away from Trump’s location noticed the muzzle of an AK-style rifle protruding from the shrubbery lining the course, approximately 400 yards from where Trump was playing.
According to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, an agent fired at the gunman, causing him to drop the rifle and flee in an SUV. The suspect abandoned the firearm, two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera at the scene.
The man was apprehended later in a neighboring county and is currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing as authorities piece together the details surrounding the attempted attack.
