Charges have been stayed against a man accused of attacking four people with a machete in Edmonton last year.
Emergency services responded to a disturbance call at a home on 118th Avenue and 38th Street at 4 a.m. in July 2023. Upon arrival, they found two women and a man suffering from extensive, life-threatening injuries. While awaiting paramedics, first responders discovered another man in a nearby vehicle with a serious stab wound.
Bobby-James Lavallee, 30, of Prince George, B.C., was arrested on August 4 and charged with one count of attempted murder, four counts of aggravated assault, and multiple breaches of conditions and probation. Police indicated that the attacks appeared unprovoked, although the victims and the accused were known to each other.
On September 27, the Crown opted to stay the charges against Lavallee due to the unavailability of key witnesses for the preliminary hearing. Without their testimony, the Crown determined there was not a likelihood of conviction.
