Fort Saskatchewan 2024 census results

Fort Saskatchewan’s population has increased by 4.31 per cent in 2024, reaching 29,857 residents, according to the latest municipal census. This is an increase of 1,233 people from the previous year.

The census, conducted between April and June 2024, helps the city plan for services, secure funding, and guide future development.

Demographics

The population is evenly split, with 46.2 per cent identifying as male and 46.2 per cent as female. A small percentage identified as transgender (0.13%) or non-binary (0.19%), while 7.28 per cent did not state their gender. The largest age group is 35-39.

Households and Homes

Two-person households are the most common in the city, making up 35.8 per cent of homes. Single-detached houses are the most popular type of dwelling, accounting for nearly 60 per cent of all homes.

Aquatics Facility Vote

Residents were asked in the census whether they support building a new aquatics facility at the Dow Centennial Centre. The proposed $54 million facility would replace the Harbour Pool and could raise property taxes by $236 per year for the average homeowner.

Of the 10,440 households that responded, 61.2 per cent supported the new facility, 26.6 per cent were against it, and 12.2 per cent did not answer. City council will use these results to help decide on the project’s future.
