Oilers power to a 4-2 win over the Predators

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl powered the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday, securing the team’s second win of the season after dropping three straight games.

The Oilers’ offensive leaders delivered standout performances, with McDavid looking back to his dominant playoff form. Edmonton outshot Nashville with 20 Grade A scoring chances to 12, including an 11-5 edge in the most dangerous opportunities.

McDavid, who scored his second goal of the season, was in vintage form, creating several high-danger chances. Early in the first period, he broke in alone on the Nashville goaltender for a close-range attempt, then set himself up for a 5-alarm backhander later in the period. His goal came after winning the puck in the neutral zone and finishing with a deft deke, lifting the puck top shelf.

“Connor looked like himself tonight,” head coach Jay Woodcroft said post-game. “He made things happen every time he was on the ice.”

Draisaitl added 12 major contributions to Edmonton’s Grade A chances, setting up McDavid’s goal late in the second period and firing his trademark “Executioner’s Shot” early in the third. His vision was key in setting up several dangerous looks for teammates, including defenceman Evan Bouchard, who had two notable scoring chances in the third period.

Zach Hyman also had a strong game despite being kept off the scoresheet. He contributed to the team’s offensive pressure, creating several scoring opportunities and hustling to nullify an icing call that led to a dangerous shot from Mattias Ekholm.

Hyman’s hard work helped Edmonton maintain momentum throughout the game. His efforts in the third period led to a key power play, during which he got a solid shot off a blocked Draisaitl attempt.

The Oilers will look to build on this win as they try to turn around their early-season struggles.

Edmonton’s next game is Saturday at home against the Winnipeg Jets.
