Oilers beat flames 4-2 Sunday night, Battle of Alberta series at 1-1

Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists as the Edmonton Oilers topped the Calgary Flames 4-2 at the Saddledome on Sunday.

Zach Hyman, Jeff Skinner and Mattias Janmark, with an empty net goal also scored as the Oilers won for the fourth time in five games and a second straight with captain Connor McDavid out with an ankle injury. They improved to 6-5-1.

Stuart Skinner made 29 saves in goal for Edmonton. Draisaitl opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the game, lifting a backhand shot over Calgary goalie Dan Vladar. Skinner extended the lead to 2-0 at 8:12 of the first period.

After the Flames evened it on goals by Anthony Mantha and Yegor Sharangovich, Hyman tallied the winner on a power play at 10:10 of the third. This was the Oilers’ lone trip to Calgary without McDavid, who’s believed to return later this month.

With the victory, the Oilers drew even in the Battle of Alberta series 1-1 and next face the Flames on March 29.
