General Motors (GM) has announced a large recall affecting some popular models due to a powertrain issue. As of November 1st, Transport Canada reported that GM is recalling over 50,000 vehicles across the country.
The recall is linked to a faulty transmission control valve that may wear down over time, leading to a loss of pressure. This could cause the transmission to shift harshly and potentially lock up the rear wheels, increasing the risk of a crash.
Vehicle owners will be notified by mail and are urged to take their vehicles to a dealership. If the issue is detected, a service engine light will turn on, a message will display in the instrument panel, and the vehicle will be limited to fifth gear.
This recall specifically affects GM vehicles with diesel engines. The impacted models include:
- 2021 Cadillac Escalade
- 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV
- 2020, 2021, and 2022 Chevrolet Silverado
- 2020, 2021, and 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD
- 2021 Chevrolet Suburban
- 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe
- 2020, 2021, and 2022 Chevrolet Sierra
- 2020, 2021, and 2022 Chevrolet Sierra HD
- 2021 GMC Yukon
- 2021 GMC Yukon XL
