An encampment located at 34 Street and Roper Road in Edmonton was discovered in October of last year. The site contained portable generators, running water, a coffee and laundry machine, solar panels, and a working refrigerator. Police video footage also showed evidence of shotgun shells, knives, machetes, an automatic firearm, and around $8,000 worth of stolen goods.
Police say five people had been living in the camp, they had disguised it with black tarp, leaves, and branches. 20 violation tickets were written and 10 warrants were released once the camp was closed down.
An additional encampment site was discovered earlier this month, located close by on private property. It has been cleared and is currently being assessed for demolition.
