Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith issued a statement to all Albertans celebrating this exciting day. She extended best wishes and dove into a little bit of what the Lunar New Year is. “Today, more than two billion people around the globe, including thousands of Albertans, come together to celebrate Lunar New Year. While customs and traditions may differ across cultures, this joyous occasion unites us in embracing the promise of new beginnings, opportunities and prosperity in the year ahead. This year, Jan. 29 marks a significant transition as we bid farewell to the Year of the Dragon and welcome the Year of the Snake, specifically the Wood Snake. This is a unique time as the Year of the Wood Snake comes only once every 60 years. In what feels to be a pivotal moment in history, it is significant that the Year of Wood Snake is known to be a time for planning, transformation, and learning from the past. This also embodies qualities that resonate deeply with the spirit of Alberta – resilience, progress and the pursuit of success. To everyone celebrating, I extend my warmest wishes for a joyful Lunar New Year filled with peace, happiness and prosperity.”
