Last Thursday at around 1:30 a.m., a Peterbilt semi-truck was stolen from Edmonton. Vegreville RCMP located it using a built-in GPS tracker that was installed in the semi. They attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled. No pursuit was initiated.
An RCMP helicopter watched the semi drive through Lamont, Chipman, and Bruderheim before a tire deflation device was successfully deployed. The driver of the semi got out and immediately tried to carjack a different vehicle but was subdued. The two other carjackers tried to run on-foot but were also apprehended.
A search of the semi and the offenders revealed government ID cards and cheques that belonged to at least six different people, tools often used for property crime, and at least 13 grams of Crystal Meth.
