Elderly woman killed in north Edmonton collision

An elderly woman has been killed after a collision in north Edmonton over the long weekend.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is reporting that a 73-year-old woman was walking on a marked crosswalk on 118 Avenue when she was hit by a red Dodge Nitro traveling west.

EMS did respond to the scene but the woman succumbed to her injuries while on the scene.

The driver of the Nitro remained on the scene and has been identified as a 36-year-old woman. She reported no injuries as a result of the collision.

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section is investigating the incident. At this time, police do not believe that alcohol and speed were factors.
