Former St. Albert NHL player retires and joins Vegas Golden Knights staff

A former NHL player from St. Albert has been hired by the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights announced on Tuesday (Sept. 12) afternoon that they had hired Nick Holden to their player development staff.

Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon said Holden will be working with the team’s prospects as well as with their AHL affiliate The Henderson Silver Knights.

“We are pleased to have Nick join our organization as a member of our development staff,” said McCrimmon. “Nick was widely respected by management, teammates, and coaches during his time with the Golden Knights as a player.

Holden spent his minor hockey days playing for the St. Albert Raiders and even spent a year in Sherwood Park for the AJHL’s Crusaders.

He entered the NHL as an undrafted player in 2010 with the Columbus Blue Jackets but didn’t get regular playing time until he went to the Colorado Avalanche in 2013-14.

He then carved out a lengthy 654-game NHL career that included stints in New York, Boston, Vegas, and Ottawa.
