One dead after roll over in Strathcona County

One person is dead after a fatal vehicle roll over which ended a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

The chase was on September 22 just after 10 p.m., when Strathcona County RCMP were advised of the stolen vehicle by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS).

Although no vehicles chased after the suspect, EPS Air One helicopter kept watch on the vehicle as it drove erratically down Highway 16.

Eventually a tire deflation device was used on the vehicle on Range Road 220 east of Sherwood Park. However, the vehicle continued to drive with deflated tires. The stolen vehicle came to a stop just a few minutes later as it rolled over on Range Road 215.

RCMP officers arrived to attend the rollover when they found that the driver, an adult male, had been thrown from the vehicle. The man was declared dead at the scene.

An investigation is currently underway as officers look into the circumstances that lead to the collision.
