ASIRT investigating death of Edmonton man

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the death of an Edmonton man.

Around midnight on September 20, police responded to a complaint involving a man on Shaske Crescent in southwest Edmonton. According to the report, the man was acting erratically, swinging an ice chipper at a passing vehicle.

Officers arrived on scene and commanded the man lay down on ground and put down the weapon, which he did. The man was placed in handcuffs where he went into medical distress.

Officers called EMS and began CPR. When paramedics arrived, they took the man to hospital.

On October 2, ASIRT was told by the Edmonton Medical Examiner that the 46-year-old man had passed away in hospital.

ASIRT has since began an investigation into the man’s death.
