Woman, 80, dead in crash on Highway 16, East of Lavoy

An 80-year-old woman is dead following a crash east of Lavoy around 6:10 p.m, Sunday on Highway 16 at Highway 36, police say.

The RCMP say a southbound SUV on Highway 36 a blew a stop sign at Highway 16 and struck a westbound SUV, fatally injuring the woman heading West.

The RCMP say the driver of that westbound SUV sustained minor injuries as was treated at Vegreville Hospital.

The Mounties say Highway 16 was closed in both eastbound and westbound directions for several hours to facilitate the investigation.
