Leduc county man faces manslaughter charge in connection to death of 5-year-old foster child

The Mounties have charged Darren Gardner, a 47-year-old man from Leduc County, with manslaughter in connection with the death of a five-year-old boy in his custody as a ward in foster care.

The RCMP identified the child, who died on June 14, 2022, as Patience Noskiye. Police say the cause of death was unknown at the time emergency medical services and RCMP were dispatched to the rural property where Noskiye was living and ultimately found. Alberta RCMP major crimes division in addition to detectives stationed in Leduc were called to investigate.

Gardner was arrested and charged on October 14. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on Thursday.
