Edmonton police shoot and kill woman during welfare check, ASIRT investigating

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating into a case where a woman was shot by EPS officers during a welfare check.

On December 6, police were called to the area of 18 Avenue and 32 Street to check on a welfare of a woman.

When officers knocked on the door, there was no answer. Believing that there was imminent risk of self-harm to the woman, police entered the suite.

This led to a confrontation believe the officers and the woman, where officers shot the woman with a taser and a gun.

Officers and paramedics tried life saving measures, but the woman died of her injuries. No EPS members were harmed during the incident.

According to police, an imitation firearm was found at the scene.

ASIRT investigates any incident where an officers force resulted in serious injury or death.
