Woman sent to hospital after street race in Edmonton

A 29-year-old woman was taken to hospital after her vehicle was hit during a collision following a street race.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m. when it was reported that there was a race between a 48-year-old woman in a Dodge Charger and a 19-year-old in an Infiniti G35 down Yellowhead Trail between 82 Street and 97 Street.

According to police, the two racing vehicles collided with each other before impacting a third, uninvolved vehicle, which was being driven by the 29-year-old woman. The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries, while the drivers of the racing vehicles, who remained at the scene, were unharmed.

Police believe that speed may have been a major factor in the crash, and charges are pending against the racers.

EPS is asking anyone with dashcam footage of the collision to contact them by calling 780-423-4567.
