Elk Island Public and Catholic School Boards Cancel Bus Service Due to Extreme Cold Conditions

In response to the severe cold snap, both Elk Island Public and Catholic School Boards have announced the cancellation of all bus services for the day. According to Environment Canada, the area is expected to experience a frigid daytime high of -29°C, with wind chill values plummeting to -41°C, and has issued an extreme cold warning.

Elk Island Public Schools has advised that while bus services are suspended, schools will remain open. They encourage families who are able to do so to safely transport their children to school. All scheduled classes will proceed as planned.

Similarly, Elk Island Catholic Schools has also suspended their bus services due to the extreme weather conditions. However, the schools will be open, and students and their families are welcome to make individual arrangements for transportation.

Environment Canada warns that exposed skin can suffer frostbite in minutes with such extreme cold. The weather agency advises anyone spending any length of time outside to layer and bundle up.
