St Albert hockey coach suddenly passes away

A hockey coach from St. Albert passed away earlier this week after an accident.

Darin Wood, 35, was an assistant coach for the St. Albert U17AAA Flyers. He had a reputation in the hockey community, coaching minor hockey throughout the Edmonton region since 2014.

At the age of 17, Wood was paralyzed after a car accident, which ended his hockey career with the South Side Athletic Club.

Wood’s passing was announced in a Facebook post on January 10.

“We will post more information in the upcoming days as the family needs time to process the next steps,” wrote Wood’s brother Corey.

More details to come…
