Elk Island Public, Catholic School buses back up and running

It’s finally warm enough for Elk Island Public and Catholic School buses to be back up and running.

The buses were announced to return for after school on Monday as temperatures warm up to daytime highs of -20 C. They’re expected to return for the rest of the week.

“As temperatures are still very cold, parents are asked to please ensure children are dressed appropriately for inclement weather conditions when accessing bus service,” wrote Elk Island Public Schools in a release.

The buses were cancelled back on Thursday due to an extreme cold warning being issued in the area. As daytime highs felt close to -55 C with the windchill, this made it difficult for school buses to run properly.

Families are advised to monitor the EIPS website for delays or cancellations that may occur on their child’s bus. You can visit their website here.

EIPS covers students in Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, and the greater Strathcona County.
