Edmonton fire captain charged with possession of child porn

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) and Morinville RCMP have charged an Edmonton fire chief with possessing child pornography.

The investigation began into 54-year-old Christopher McDonald back in October 2023 after receiving reports of a high volume of child pornography being shared online.

“A number of computers and electronic devices were seized from McDonald’s home, which are now being examined to collect further evidence,” wrote ALERT in a press release. “While the investigation and charges are related to online offences, the nature of McDonald’s employment placed him in a position of trust and authority.”

In total, McDonald is facing charges of making, possessing, and accessing child pornography. He is also facing two counts of unsafe gun storage.

McDonald, a Morinville resident, has been released from custody on several conditions, and will be appearing in a Morinville court on February 15.
