Fort Saskatchewan non-profit thrift store, Twice But Nice, will double the dollars it offers up for scholarships, expanding from one offering, to two, of $5,000.
Having recently completed a scholarship program review process, Twice But Nice will now offer the Lesley Macmillian Scholarship. This scholarship will be for students attending an accredited technical institute, trade school or apprenticeship program, Twice But Nice said in a media release.
Macmillian is a long-time resident of Fort Saskatchewan. She is involved with many local non-profits including Twice But Nice, the Boys and Girls Club, at the Shell Theatre, the Canada Day committee, Piranhas Swim Club, and Citizens on Patrol. The City of Fort Saskatchewan recently named a park after her.
The Anne Springman Scholarship will continue to be offered. It will be for students attending university or college. In the past it had been awarded based on demonstrated leadership traits and financial need, the media release said.
“Each year the recipient, as part of receiving the scholarship, would attend the Twice But Nice Board meeting and report on their educational journey and how the scholarship has helped them.”
The scholarships are available to graduating Fort Saskatchewan high school students annually. More information can be found on the Twice But Nice website.
