ASIRT Investigates Edmonton Police Service Shooting of Stabbing Suspect

Alberta’s arms-length police watchdog is investigating Edmonton Police Service following the shooting of a stabbing suspect in West Edmonton on Friday after 7:30 p.m.

Police say they responded to Winterburn Road at 107 Avenue following a report that a 36-year-old man stabbed another man outside of a pub before fleeing the area in a truck.

Police say, shortly after, the suspect rammed his truck into a civilian driver’s vehicle while that person pursued the stabbing suspect.

Police caught up to the suspect near 178th Street and 98A Ave and say that a confrontation with the man ensued leading to an EPS officer shooting him.

The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and transported to the hospital by paramedics.

The stabbing victim sustained serious injuries.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team investigates incidents where police conduct results in injury or death.
