The provincial government is sending out grant funding to 200 municipal agencies throughout Alberta, and one of them is St. Albert.
According to Andrea Smith, health press secretary with the Alberta government, says that St. Albert will be receiving just under $70,000 to help with operating costs and purchasing new equipment.
$47,000 will go towards the offsetting operating costs, while another $21,000 will help them acquire new training mannequins, an airway management training simulator, and other new pieces of equipment.
The government announced the funding in late February, promising to deliver $3.8 million in total funding throughout the entire province.
Between 2022 and 2023, St. Albert emergency services saw an increase of over 50 per cent in medical calls. This comes as many firefighters in St. Albert also serve as the city’s paramedics.
In total, the city of St. Albert has 86 registered paramedics in their staff.
