Alberta UCP says they are planning to give financial support for children and families to support youth sport by funding $8 million to the Every Kid Can Play Program (EKCPP)
“Through sports, children can discover their strength, redefine limits and inspire us all with their determination and spirit. Sports programs for children of all abilities are not only about empowerment, resilience and breaking boundaries, they also catalyze social inclusion, breaking down barriers and affirming the inherent worth and dignity of every child.” said Joanne Dorn, executive director, Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta
In a news release issues on Tuesday, the Alberta Government said that if the 2024 Budget passes, the government will donate $8 million to the EKCPP. The program takes away the barriers for Albertan families and increases the accessibility of kids sports and recreational activities.
“Sport and recreation opportunities should be affordable and accessible for all, especially young children and youth. An important part of growing up, sport teaches teamwork, builds confidence and promotes healthy lifestyles that can last well into adulthood.” said Joseph Schow, Minister of Tourism and Sport
Eligible families can apply for support and non-profit organizations can apply for grant funding to increase access to sport and recreation programs.
