Extreme cold response activated in St. Albert

With temperatures nearing -40 C with the windchill, the City of St. Albret has activated its extreme cold weather response.

The response was activated yesterday and will continue until Thursday. In the meantime, temperatures are expected to reach well into -20 C during the night.

The Extreme Cold Weather response is designed to ensure that people are able to get out of the cold and have access to heated buildings.

The city also allows anyone to ride transit for free in case they’re looking to find a city facility they can warm up in.

The extreme cold response was last activated in St. Albert back in January during the cold snap, which saw 14 people seek shelter at the St. Albert Food Bank.
