Edmonton ending extreme cold weather response

The city of Edmonton has announced that the Extreme Weather Response will be deactivated before the weekend.

According to a release sent out by the city, the response will be over at 9 a.m. on Friday.

“The deactivation of the extreme weather response is being announced today to give individuals time to adjust their plans for accessing shelter,” the city wrote in the release.

Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) will continue to operate the Winter Shelter Shuttle Service on the north and south routes regardless of the weather, as a way to help Edmontonians find a warm, safe place to go each night.

The Winter Shelter Shuttle Service will be ending on March 31. You can learn more about information on shelter sites that operate in the winter by visiting the Homeward Trust website.

The city also asks that if you’re concerned about someone outside in the cold, to either call 211 for non-emergency support, and 911 if the person is in serios distress.
