Edmonton police charge man in death of his father

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have laid charges against a 37-year-old man in relation to the death of his elderly father.

On March 11, police responded to reports of an assault at a residence near 95 Street and 105 Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered 72-year-old Lawrence Dion in critical condition. He was transported to hospital.

Police determined that the 37-year-old Shawn Dion had attacked his mother and father at their home. Shawn was arrested on the same day as the assault and was charged with aggravated assaulted.

However, after Lawrence died in hospital due to his injuries, Shawn’s charges were upgraded to manslaughter.

Police have an autopsy scheduled for Lawrence’s body on Friday morning.
