Edmonton police charge four in series of copper wire thefts

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have charged four suspects in a number of copper wire thefts.

Throughout the autumn of 2023, police responded to several break ins at the Canadian National Railway storage yard down 127 Avenue. Police say that most incidents involved the suspects cutting through the fence to enter the yard.

As police investigated, they identified several of the suspects, arresting three of them and issuing an arrest warrant for the fourth.

According to police, the total amount of wire stolen costs around $9,500.

Police have charged 50-year-old Michael Roberts, 37-year-old Mark Johnston, and 38-year-old Shane Manning. Roberts also had six outstanding warrants for other break ins.

The final suspect, 33-year-old Charles Patterson, has not been located. Police have since issued a warrant for his arrest and published a photo of him to the public.

Anyone with information on Patterson’s whereabouts are being asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567.
