RCMP: Two dead in Highway 825 crash

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP have confirmed that two people are dead following a serious crash that happened on Highway 825 on Tuesday evening.

The crash was just before 11 a.m. near Boysdale Road and was between two semi trucks. According to police, both semi trucks were on fire when they arrived.

One of the trucks was carrying pipes, while the other was hauling empty propane tanks.

Police confirmed that both drivers of the semi trucks were dead at the scene, with other vehicles being damaged by debris and by trying to avoid the crash.

RCMP, Gibbons and Sturgeon County fire, Transport Canada, Fish and Wildlife, Alberta Sheriffs, and Sturgeon County Peace Officers were on scene for several hours investigating the crash.

Initial reports indicate that the southbound semi carrying pipes ended up crossing the center line and striking head-on with the other semi carrying propane tanks.

Although the accident has been cleared the road remains closed with traffic being rerouted.
