The average Edmonton household is expected to pay about $8.97 in taxes every day to fund programs and services across the city.
This comes as Edmonton city council passed the 2024 tax bylaw, with the municipal property tax finalized at 8.9 per cent.
This increase will affect property owners differently. For example, a residential property will pay about $766 in municipal taxes for every $100,000 of assessed home value. This is an increase of $66 from the year before.
According to the city, property taxes in 2024 will generate more than $2 billion to the city, with the money being used to fund emergency services, parks, trials, roads, bridges, transit, recreation centres, attractions, and social supports.
The city of Edmonton even released a video showing how properties are assessed, which they uploaded to their YouTube channel in 2022.
Tax notices will be mailed out in late May, with taxes being due on June 30.
