Open mic poetry night coming to St. Albert

A local bakery in St. Albert is hosting an open mic poetry night later this week.

The event is open for young artists from Grade 7 to 21 years old and will be at Confections Cake Co. on May 2 starting at 7 p.m.

The show is hosted by Amplify St. Albert, with sweet treats and a special guest performance from St. Albert poet Medgine Mathrurin.

“Whether you’re there to perform or to simply enjoy the work of St. Albert’s young creatives, warm up your snapping fingers, grab some dessert and settle in for an evening of poetry performance that’s sure to vacillate from emotional to playful to honest to irreverent and back again,” wrote Amplify on the show’s event page.

Although the event is to showcase the poetry of young St. Albert residents, the event is free to attend and available for spectators of all ages.

For performers, they can either register at the door on the day of the event, or ahead of time on the City of St. Albert website.
