Used book sale in Fort Saskatchewan teaching about homeschooling

A used book and curriculum sale is coming to Fort Saskatchewan next week.

This sale will be going on at the Dow Centennial Centre from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 7, with the event being held by the Fort Saskatchewan Homeschool Support Group.

“We used to hold the event in church basements, but it’s just less visible,” said Karen Hipson with the group. “We’ve been around for about 25 years, probably.”

This sale will be a mix of moms selling used books and homeschool materials alongside small home businesses, and a kids’ business table of young entrepreneurs.

“I know there’s going to be a table selling Mother’s Day gifts, one doing bracelets, and about two doing baked goods,” added Hipson.

This event is open for everyone to attend, not just those enrolled in homeschooling. There will even be homeschool providers at the event offering information.

“We loosely follow the province for the sake of being up to date with our kids’ peers, but we also spent a lot of time going into their own interests.”
