Canada government testing phone emergency alerts

Residents across most Canada will be getting a test alert on their cellphones on Wednesday.

According to the government, this test will play an emergency alert sound along with news release notes, with the Alberta test coming in at around 11:55 a.m.

This is the first time that the federal government has tested their emergency alerts after they signed an agreement on issuing alerts of national concern.

The only province that won’t be receiving these alerts is Ontario, with their emergency test taking place the following week.

This test alert will also be played through television and radio broadcasts.

This comes as this week is Emergency Preparedness week, with communities all across Canada putting together tests and programs to help residents prepare in the case of an emergency.
