Weekend smoke clears out of the area

The thick smoke that rolled into the area over the weekend is gone, according to Environment Canada.

This smoke came as wildfires were popping up all across the province, with a fire near Fort McMurray even tripling overnight, leading to evacuation alerts in the city.

The smoke had brought air quality to high risk over the weekend, with the City of Edmonton even activating its extreme weather response due to the poor air quality.

However, cleaner air is expected in the area for the start of the week alongside some light rain and cloudy skies. There is also expected to be more rain towards the end of the week.

Despite the smoke leaving the area, the smoke will remain in Northern Alberta for most of the week, with Edmonton even expecting some more smoke on Thursday.
