Darren Dutchyshen passes away at 57

Darren Dutchyshen, one of the biggest figures in Canadian sports broadcasting, has passed away at the age of 57.

His death was announced by TSN after they received a statement from Dutchyshen’s family, saying that he passed away on Wednesday.

“He passed as he was surrounded by his closest loved ones,” the Dutchyshen family wrote in a statement sent to TSN. “His sharp wit remained until his final moments, classically delivering plenty of jokes – most of them pretty good and all of them inappropriate.”

Dutchyshen first started broadcasting for TSN in 1995, also known for hosting ITV’s Sports Night in Edmonton, and hosting Olympic Prime Time during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games, and the London 2012 Summer Games.

Starting by hosting weekend editions of SportsDesk and CFL Live, he eventually became a beloved team member, hosting the late-night editions of SportsCentre.

Dutchyshen was born in Regina, getting his first broadcasting job with STV in Saskatoon.

TSN will be honouring Dutchyshen over the coming days, with some of his friends and coworkers sharing their stories about him.
