Spruce Grove amends public advertising bylaw

The City of Spruce Grove has proposed an amendment to its Advertising Bylaw.

The amendment was presented on Monday, with the hopes that this change would no longer make it mandatory for the city to advertise council proceedings.

Recently the city had an indicent where they sent an advertisement to the local nespaper, but when the paper had not published the advertisement, the violation fell on the city rather than the newspaper.

This amendment would make it so that the city would no longer be in violation of a bylaw if council proceedings are not advertised. However, the city added that they will continue advertising council proceedings despite the proposed change.

Although the first reading has passed, the public hearing on the bylaw, as well as the second and third reading, will be happening at the council meeting on August 26.

The city will also be advertising in accordance with the bylaw on the City of Spruce Grove website.
