Dallas Stars DJ sorry for playing ‘La Bamba’ after Oilers game 2 loss

The Oilers are still waiting to hear ‘La Bamba’ in Edmonton after blowing a 2-0 lead to lose game three 5-3 on Monday.

The DJ for the Dallas Stars has apologized for playing ‘La Bamba’ after the Stars victory over the Oilers in game 2 Saturday night.  The song is played at Rogers Place after every Oilers victory, honouring locker room attendant Joey Moss and six-year-old super fan Ben Stelter, both deceased.

Fans were quick to social media to point out to DJ Jonathon (Shippy) Shipman the importance of the song.

Shipman posted an apology on his X account @ShippySpins on Sunday, writing: “I’m sorry, Oilers fans. If I knew what I know now about the significance of La Bamba to your franchise and fan base, I certainly would not have played it.”  Shipman says he plays the defeated opposing team’s victory song to lampoon the team.

Shipman also noted that he had made a donation to the Ben Shelter Foundation, and encouraged Stars fans to do likewise. As of Monday evening, over $10,000 had been raised.
