Severe thunderstorm watch for Edmonton area.

There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect as of Friday 4:38p.m.

According to Environment Canada, thunderstorms are in development and will produce strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain. They are still moving at a slow pace.

Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the following areas:

  • Fort Saskatchewan
  • Lamont County
  • Strathcona County, excluding Sherwood Park
  • Eastern Sturgeon County

Environment Canada warns that hail and possible thunder can cause serious injury and cations people in the area to stay indoors.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
