Elks take on the Argos in Toronto

The Elks will need to shake off their two losses—albeit hard-fought ones—to start their season today as they visit the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday.

Saturday’s game should have no shortage of motivation for three former Argos who are now playing for the Elks: quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, wide receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and kick returner Javon Leake.  The trio all contributed to the Argonauts 2022 Grey Cup Championship.

“This is going to be one fun game, I’m not going to lie,” said Leake. “I can’t wait, man. I’m just taking it day by day, trying not to get too excited, but this is definitely going to be one of those games.”

Bethel-Thompson and Gittens Jr. are recapturing the chemistry that the two had during the 2022 season.

“You know, it’s like a natural connection. That’s my guy and I earned his trust,” Gittens Jr. said. “I love playing with a guy like that because he’s just a great guy and he loves football. I love football so it’s kind of easy to click with him.”

“He’s a complete receiver. There’s nothing he can’t do,” Bethel-Thompson said. “He separates from defenders. He’s an unbelievable contested catch guy. He understands his zone coverage. He understands where to be. He runs away from people. He goes over the top of people.”

Kickoff is Saturday at 5pm on TSN 1 and 3.
